...Big Head?
12.28.04

Hey bros. It's the Jadster. I added a message board to the website. The link can be found in the left-hand side column of this page under "Talk New Radio."

About the Dark Spiral
11.7.04

Alex here. When I recently conducted an interview with longtime comics pro and six-time Eisner nominee Jeff Nicholson, I discovered he doesn't just make some of my favorite comics out there--he's also a hell of a guy. If you're a fan, a comics hopeful or just interested in what goes on in the career of a small press king, check the interivew out here.

Numero Uno
11.2.04

Hey, all. Alex here. Some pretty great things on the horizon for New Radio.

Although Something So Familiar is goin' slow right now--18 units at school, four days a week at work--I'm planning to have the book wrapped up by Christmas--which means maintaining my pace of (almost) a page a week. I'll spend a month after X-Mas retouching, redrawing and altogether finalizing the book for its submission to the Xeric Foundation at the end of January, and that'll be that--the first New Radio comic.

Jad's back in Portland, and after he and I get the New Radio studio up and buzzing at our new place, we'll be laying down the final plots for Poison the Cure (looking to be anywhere from 200-400 pages right now). Then, in the spring, as I'm making my senior-thesis comic and getting ready to leave school forever, Jad'll be wrapping up the script for Poison's first chapter--and I'll spend the summer drawing it.

Keep checkin' back for new pages of SSF and for mad progress drawings of Poison the Cure and of my thesis comic, another silent work tentatively called The Last Island.

New Radio is just gettin' started, y'all. Too rowdy.

Taking it up a notch
8.28.04

Hey, everybody. Sorry it's been so long since Jad and I updated. It's certainly not the case that we haven't updated for lack of news or material; quite the opposite, in fact. Check it out.

First of all, a little while ago Marcus relinquished his spot on the New Radio dream team, leaving our plans little better than half-baked. It wasn't something that Jad and I didn't see coming and it's not something that will leave a bad taste in anyone's mouth. Marcus simply decided comics weren't in his foreseeable future and decided he wanted to dig deeper into his education before pursuing a career in illustration--most likely outside of comics. While of course Jad and I will miss his vital addition, he's still our #1 homeboy and we're just going to have to move on with our own books and our own plans without him. For those of you eager for Three Swords to Dawn, we're sorry--seriously, we wanted to see it, too--but don't give up hope: you never really know with Marcus. . . .

Our anthology Clockwise is indefinitely postponed, and it's completely my (Alex's) fault. I simply fell into an old habit of piling too much on my plate and burned a few dudes in the process--Jad's only just begun to talk to me again. It just became obvious that work on Something so Familiar would suffer too much if I was going to orchestrate the anthology and contribute--and I wasn't willing to let that happen.

In my own defense, I'm proud to say that a fat chunk of pages from SSF are now available to be viewed, here, and this time they INCLUDE the first seven pages and a redrawn 8th.

Also, in spite of anything you've ever read on this site, Jad is now working on a new, NON-Two Sons project and my next project after SSF is NOT going to be The Alarm. In an effort to gel the New Radio effort and crystallize our now-necessary collaborative skills, Jad and I have loosely drafted a new story, a rowdy-ass sci-fi bruiser called Poison the Cure, to be our mutual next book. We're working together on the plot, but the script will be his and the art mine. Looks to be a long one right now, but plans are for 50-page chapters, the first of whose art will be started at the end of Spring '05. That's a long time off, I know, but you can check and keep checkin' out all the characters and progress art we have so far right here.

too rowdy summer 2004
Thursday, 6/17/04

Alex here. I posted a new drawing here for The Alarm which I've decided is going to be my next comics project when Something So Familiar is done. Have a looksee.

Also, while I'm not sure that New Radio is going to publish it, I'm putting together a comics anthology this summer, tentatively called Clockwise . All the New Radio guys are in on it--Jad's written one for me to draw and I've written one for Marcus to draw--and I'm culling the ranks of comics superstardom to fill the rest of the book's pages with quality dudes like this. More later.

Pages for Something So Familiar are coming along on schedule but I'm jumping around so much on them that there's so sensical chunk to post just yet. Sorry. But keep checkin'.

Can't Stop Drawin'!
Monday, 5/3/04

Alex here. I've begun working on Something So Familiar, and I thought I'd post the first of the book's two splash pages, even though you won't see the second for quite a while. The paneled pages will begin to appear in order on the site within the next few weeks--possibly earlier--so keep checkin' back. Everything will be posted here under the 'Artwork' part of the site, so keep checkin' back. Comics life, y'all.

News For Them Watching
Monday, 4/26/04

Alex here. Just wanted to throw a little something new up on the site, so I've posted a drawing I did recently as an homage to Horace's immortal poem, Integer Vitae. There'll be more up on the site soon, too, as Marcus begins his preliminary sketches for Three Swords, and as I post the first few inked pages of Something So Familiar

Onis? Oh-NO-Ness
Tuesday, 3/30/04

Alex here. The 'Current Projects' page has been updated once more, with my new project, a comic called Something So Familiar, which I'll be spending the next year on. Check out the drawing and the description and let me know what you think!

OH MY GOD! MARCUS HAS A DRAWING UP! EVERYONE GO TO 'CURRENT PROJECTS!'

HOO ROW TOO ROW
Thursday, 3/4/04
Alex here. Just wanted to tip everyone off to the new image up on the site. I put some hours in this week on a new drawing and now, on the Current Projects part of the site, you can check out Ghazi al-Khalid and Abdullah getting their first look at the book that shapes their future in Jad's comic, A Land of Two Sons . That's it for now, everyone. Throw some emails around to us. Comics LIFE.

HECK YEAH
Tuesday, 2/24/04
Alex here. Jad and I had some beers at Bridgeport tonight and discussed a lot of things about the future of New Radio, so we felt the need to post some new goods on the site here. Surely you noticed the hott new splash we put up with Onis, Ghazi and Elliott! We're way proud of it, and on top of that, we New Radio boys have been busy with other stuff. Along with a possible sign-on--a dude who may be working with Jad and doing the art for A Land of Two Sons!--there's some new eye-candy on the site: we've posted a pin-up of The Alarm, a story about friendship, ex-cons and intra-galactic political corruption that I have planned for the distant future. You can see it on the newly-added Future Projects part of the site. Check in soon--the weekend, probably--for some art from Two Sons, and if you haven't already, check out my 24-hour comic, This Time Tomorrow, on the Artwork section. I hope to see some art on the site soon that ISN'T mine, but we'll see. Meantime--enjoy, kids, and visit and email us as much as you can stand it. Comics LIFE.

24-Hour Madness
Sunday 2/1/04
New Radio Comics is sponsoring a 24-hour comics jam! This coming Saturday, a handful of comics-makers in Portland are cloistering themselves in the cold confines of 2307 SE Taggart and are working for a solid 24 hours, each on his own 24-page masterpiece. Well--everyone's at least going to try. We'll have as few as five and as many as ten comics-makers, so it might get a little crowded, but either way, The Rowdy Boiz at least will have their comics posted up here under 'artwork' within a couple weeks.

New Layout
Saturday 1/31/04
We've discarded all the color and are moving toward an exclusively black and white look in an effort to eventually have the page resemble a black and white comic. More updates and additions soon to come.
